The day started with
over 500 people gathering, socializing
and enjoying the delicious food under
the heated sun. The show began with a
very moving speech given by Rajab
Chamlakh which was followed by a moment
of silence for the martyrs in Palestine
and the victims of the July 7th bombings
in London. This was then followed by an
equally moving speech by HE Afif Safiah,
who was then presented with a gorgeous
bouquet of flowers as a token of
appreciation for his support, followed
by introducing a folklore dance show (dabkeh)
by a group of young artists from
Bethlehem, Palestine called Hakaya, who
eloquently introduced the Palestinian
heritage and culture to the western
world. The day came to a wrap with a
beautiful performance by Al - Horryiah,
a London based dabkeh group.
This year’s annual bbq was distinctly
set apart from previous ones, as it bid
farewell to HE Afif Safiah, which
attracted many non-Arabs, all of which
enjoyed the Arab hospitality and
appetizing food.
